BO’NESS UNITED Chairman Iain Muirhead has ripped into the town now having two senior teams and probably playing for some of the same sponsorship deals.
The thing is, there is nothing the big team can do about how the new Athletic is in the town. You can’t sit on your laurels and expect it all to fall in your lap. It may help if the situation was better thought out before going to this level. The higher up you go the more money you will need and have to find it.
Looking from the outside in, nothing seems to have changed over the last couple of years like being trapped in the time of when we were juniors. The park was created through a consortium of hard labour, grants and sponsorship leaving the football club virtually nothing to do and a brand new park on artificial turf.
What happened in the Spring of 2019 the members were told of the juniors but the tide has changed and the juniors were heading for the wall through no fault of their own. Hence the reason for going, senior.
Understanding what is going on is one thing and understanding that we need to get the finger out and push for sponsors. They ain’t going to come knocking at the door to say, “Here is cash for sponsorship.” We have one of the largest committees going so the work should be lighter chasing sponsorship. The Treasure Chest has definitely helped the club and committee members saying, “It is money for old rock,” This alone will make other organisations think about doing a treasure chest and I am surprised nobody else has started one.
Iain does say he feels “shafted after what the original plans were” and he ain’t going to roll over and let it happen. Shafted is a big word with a big meaning and we could have used it before.
We all need to get over this and move on. Moaning about it won’t help and the days of something for nothing ain’t there these days. We don’t have the licence to stop anyone from doing something we already do, It is not the first time the club has done something another organisation has done.
