Please see below our news update regarding the situation at Newtown Park.
‘As part of the planning process for installing the new 3G pitch, we were instructed to obtain a Coal Mining Risk Assessment report to ensure there was no undermining at Newtown Park that would impact on the laying of the new surface. The initial work was undertaken by F.W.S. Geological and Environmental Consultants who identified a mine entry / shaft under the park. Whilst initial site investigations were inconclusive, further checks using more sensitive equipment located the shaft.
As records regarding the closure of the shaft, pre 1920, are poor, the Coal Mining Authority now require a more intrusive inspection. This will require a permit to commence work which takes about 2 weeks to obtain. Unfortunately this inspection work will have a knock-on effect on the timing of the new pitch installation start date.
You will appreciate that the safety of all users of Newtown Park is our primary concern. We will post a further update as more information becomes available’
