As the rain poured down and all fans who made the trip out looked for cover the park looked in good condition. A cagey star as both teams tried to get into the game finished with the home side looking the better team.
The first chance fell to the home side with Marty Wright unlucky as he came close with a decent effort. The breakthrough came from a free kick David Gray swung a delightful ball into the box and Wright got on the end of it and finished well with a header. The home side continued to press forward but the linesman on the far side ruled offside on several occasions.
The visitors did look dangerous breaking forward quickly but other than a free kick that went high and wide Andy Murphy in the BU goal never had a save to make as the BU Defence we’re equal to anything coming their way.
It was almost 2-0 to the home side when Gray again done well and the shot this time was somehow stopped superbly by the Newtongrange keeper.
Half time BU 1 – 0 Newtongrange Star
Into the second half and an early opportunity for the home side with a free kick on the edge of the box. Gray again was over it this time having a shot which went only just past the post. The half continued much the same as the first with the Home side looking the better and trying to create and push forward. Stars keeper was called into action again with another great save and on the counter attach Murphy in the BU goal made a good save as well.
A sub for the home side saw Mark Kelly replaced by Prentice. Within 5 mins of coming in Prentice had two good chances both saved well by the visiting keeper.
The visiting keeper was called into action again this time turning the hall away for a corner. In it swung and Scott Gibb was there with a header only to see it flash past the far post. BU manager Stevie Kerrigan made his second change with Wright making way for Ryan Millar and the Home side were on the attack again this time the offside flag stopping them before the ball made it to the box.
Allan Mckenzie then got through 1 on 1 with the Visiting keeper only to be denied yet again by a great save, the home side were quickly onto the rebound but again the visiting keeper pulled off a great save. The BU side the started to sit a bit deeper inviting some pressure and the visitors had their best spell of the game, with the Home side playing balls forward and no one there to get on the end of them the visitors managed to push up field a bit and caused BU keeper Murphy some problems as he pulled off a few saves. The home side did then break forward and managed a shot in goal yet again the visiting keeper was on hand to save the shot low to his left this time. In the final seconds of the game the home side held onto the ball well to claim a well deserved victory.
