BU Marshall, Quitongo, Snowdon & Campbell. Boyd, Comrie, Keast & Donnelly. Gemmell, Scott & Wilson. Subs Cropley, Jacobs, Kelly, McGregor & Murphy
Goal diamond Darren Cummings who netted 7 goals in 9 appearances for the BU haunts them at Beechwood.
A good start to the match saw the BU win a couple of corners and most of the action in the opening 10-15 minutes was played in the Sauchie half of the park.
However it was the home side who almost took the lead, a quick break down the right saw a cut inside the box and square ball perfect to be hit, only a brilliant save from Alex Marshall in the BU goal kept the score to 0-0.
The defence was slow to react on the rebound however and the ball yet again was fired goal wards this time the post coming to the rescue. Finally the danger was cleared and the ball was played quickly back up field.
BU were dominating possession with no real cutting edge to show as yet. A sub was forced on the BU manager when Fraser Keast took a knock and looked to be limping badly when back on his feet, Marc Kelly came on and he was straight into the game meeting a decent cross with a good header that had the keeper beat however the ball came back off the bar.
With the BU dominating possession the only attack option the home side had was the counter attack and in fairness they did play it well creating a couple of good chances.
The final action of the first half was a free kick for Bo’ness swung into the box by Kelly and headed away for a corner. The first was cleared for a second which was poorly taken but well won back on the edge of the box by Will Snowdon. A shot from outside the box by Quitongo over the bar gave the home side a goal kick.
Half time Sauchie 0 – 0 Bo’ness.
Into the 2nd half and a free kick from Sauchie was shot well wide. Bo’ness were soon back in possession and a good shot from Jack Wilson came back off the post. A second sub for the BU came with Jordan Cropley replacing Chris Donnelly.
Much the same as the first half the visitors dominating possession and the home side playing on the counter attack when they had the ball. A goal looked to be coming for the BU with a good move down the right and cross picked out to find Kelly. Brilliant control with a first touch to set up a shot but a block from the defence stopped the attack.
The final sub for the visitors was Devon Jacobs for Michael Gemmell. The BU keeper was definately earning his wages tonight as yet again when called into action he produced a fantastic save to keep the score at 0-0 good play from Sauchie won them a corner which was crossed in well and from close range Marshall was there to save the day.
A late chance for Bo’ness saw a good touch from Kelly to create a chance but rather than shoot from the tight angle cut the ball back to Wilson who shot well over the bar. More pressure from the BU saw Cropley burst through only to have the ball slightly too far in front allowing the keeper to come out and clear.
Then the blow for the visitors and adulation for the home side came a quick ball up field cut open the BU defence and the former BU player Darren Cummings was there on hand to tap the ball home and make it 1-0. The final action of the game was a tackle from Will Snowdon earning him a yellow card.
