SUBS: Murphy, Rintoul, Trialist
In the third pre-season match for the BU it was a visit to current Junior cup holders Auchinleck. Given there was no bus there was a decent away support down in cars to watch the game and a fair support for the home side as-well as always with Talbot.
The opening ten minutes offered very little either the way as the ball was knocked about by both sides when in possession. The opening goal came after fifteen minutes and it was for the Home side with an absolute peach of a strike leaving the visiting keeper with no chance at all. It was almost two straight after the re-start as the home side got forward dangerously again, This time Alex Marshall in the the BU goal saved and the visitors pushed up the park with a good move down the left winning. a throw in level with the penalty area.
The home side were soon on the front foot again though and showing they’re class as yet again they got forward and won a free kick just outside the box. It was struck well but the wall done its job sending the ball for a corner. In came the ball and again it was a good delivery this time another good strike found the net to make it 2-0.
It was worrying times for the visitors as the home side were showing good quality and a 1-2 at the back almost gave them a chance to score a third thankfully though the ball went safely into the hands of Marshall..
Finally the visitors got forward again this time winning a corner. David Gray swung in a good ball but the volley towards goal was well off target. The visitors could and should have been back in the game on the half hour as a header from point blank range that could have been directed anywhere was put towards the home keeper. take nothing away however it still was a really good save to keep the visitors out. The visitors had another chance to send the ball into the box with a free kick. Gray swung it in towards Stuart Hunter who was up from defence only for it to come off the home side and out for a throw. In came the ball to the Talbot box again as the visitors tried to impose themselves and get a goal back but again the defence was there clearing the ball well. Now coming more into the game the next effort on goal or I should say towards goal was from the visitors but it was a long range strike well wide of the post. ten minutes off the half remained and a free kick 25 or so yards out for the visitors. Gray stood over the ball but in the end it was Josh Watt that struck it goal wards up and over the wall but over the keepers bar as-well.
The home side were on the attack again this time the gloves of Marshall in the BU goal saved well and sent the ball for a corner. Right on half time the visitors were right back in the game with a great cross rolled over the box and the ball sent goal bound by Brian Morgan, Not sure if it was going in or not the defence of Talbot tried desperately to clear but only managed to knock the ball into their own net. Talbot 2 – 1 BU.
Right on the re start the referee blew for half time.
Talbot 2 – 1 BU
Into the second half and a change in goal saw Andy Murphy replace Marshall plus an outfield change as James Rintoul replaced Morgan. Worryingly Morgan was then seen with his knee bandaged up limping towards the changing rooms at the start of the half.
The home side were first to threaten as a good ball in saw Murphy come off his line to clear and make a good save then the ball was safely booted out by Hunter. Murphy was called into action again soon after with another good save and finally the visitors got a shot on goal that went just wide.
The home side were in the visiting box again and Will Snowdon done well to clear only for Watt to loose out and a shot from the edge of the box was off target. In came another shot this time high over Murphy’s bar with the Home side looking dangerous again and the visitors trying to get back in the game more but struggling. Before the BU could get forward there was a corner from the home side to defend.
The visitors were awarded a free kick in the Home sides half and even having been given the free kick Snowdon still managed to see a yellow card for dissent towards the referee. Forward dangerously again came the home side this time with a great ball into the box perfect for the attacker to run onto, the first time shot was taken very well in his stride and watched the ball go wide of the post. A chance to equalise then came for the visitors but in the end it was a poor effort. A chance for a shot from distance for the visitors with a free kick well outside the box was next.Gray and Watt again stood over it, This time Gray shot towards goal but it was well wide and high.
Forward came the home side and a good cross again was met by a player clearly offside, however no flag from the linesman on the far side and Murphy was called into action to make another save. With just under ten mins to play another sub was made by BU manager Stevie Kerrigan as Watt was replaced by a Trialist. Then with seven minutes remaining it was game in and all square again as Alan MacKenzie cut inside to the box and what looked like it was meant to be a chip across goal sailed into the far top corner of the net for 2-2.
Into the final five minutes of what was turning out to be a very good match for a friendly and Talbot had a free kick outside the box, it was struck well low towards Murphy’s goal but he got down well to make the save. The home side tried to find a winner as they kept the ball in the visitors half and another good save from Murphy was the last action of the game.
