United entered Recreation Park in Burntisland but with a chill off the water and no sign of the shows we were wrapped up and ready to go. Not the team Stevie Kerrigan would like to see play but they are doing a great job and those that are out will have to prove themselves to get back in the side. Stuart Hunter, Ross Campbell, Devon Jacobs, David Gray & Marty Wright missing from the line up.
With the match flowing from end to end the first sign of change came midway through the half when Josh Watt was replaced by Kieran Sweeney.
Not long after the replacement Chris Donnelly tried a fancy shot and the keeper was made to work.
The BU’s were now beginning to look like themselves controlling more of the park and the first goal came from Brian Morgan who cracked the ball in off the crossbar and this helped settle them down and it wasn’t long before number two came from Aldin El-Zubaidi and this was what they needed just before the interval.
Burntisland couldn’t wait for the break to regroup as the whistle went
Half Time Burntisland Shipyard 0 Bo’ness United 2
Burntisland broke quickly from the start with the wind behind them and were unlucky not to get back into the match when the post saved Andrew Murphy. This gave them the needed confidence to get right back in the match but it was Murphy who kept the slate clean.
The matches up until now the BU defence has proved to be solid and it was proving again as the visitors were now beginning to get deeper and the next step for change was to make the customary late substitutions to break up play.
It was then the BU struck against play when Sweeney was on hand to tie up the match and make it 3-0 and the closing minutes were played out and Bo’ness now have a 100% start to the new life in the East of Scotland League,
Today was the 2nd round of the Junior Cup and we have to look back on our good and bad times competing around the country and two shocks came in the way of Beith losing at Kilwinning and Petershill losing at home against Darvel.
