The first warm up game for the BU before heading into pastures new in the EOS league and resulting cups when they get underway in a couple of weeks and a first chance for both the new players and re signed players to get game time under their belts.
On a decent bright day weather wise the game got underway and it was the home side that looked the better with some decent passing and link up play. The first goal came as a good move was finished off with a shot from new signing Brian Morgan who slotted the ball into the net under the visiting keeper in what looked to be a cool finish. It was nearly another for the Home side as again good play got the ball into the box this time the shot going wide. The visitors did get forward and the move turned out to be a danger as a good ball came across the box and a well hit shot was on target, Andy Murphy in the BU goal made a great save to palm the ball away and it was cleared well by the defence. It was a passing game from both sides when they were on in possession with very little efforts sent goal wards until a shot from the visitors was cleared for a corner. The final action of the half came as the home side made a good move forward only for good defending to deny any effort on goal.
Half time Bo’ness 1 – 0 West Calder.
Into the second half and the Trialist popped up with a great header to make it 2-0 as he got up well and made no mistake hitting the target.
Another effort soon followed for the BU this time Marty Wright from outside the box but the ball was always rising and went over the bar. The majority of possession was now with the home side and another effort from outside the box narrowly missed the target. A corner from the BU put more pressure on the visiting defence which they dealt with well. The third goal then came as a foul inside the area resulted in a penalty. Marty Wright stepped up and calmly slotted the ball into the bottom corner leaving the keeper absolutely no chance.
Another chance came for the Home side with a well delivered free kick that was cleared for a corner. Again decent defending cleared any danger. Soon another corner was swung in by the Home side again a good delivery but the visiting defence matched it and again cleared the danger.
A very good shot on target followed for the Home side and looked goal bound until it was cleared well.
The home side made a change giving the second keeper Scott Ritchie some game time as Murphy made way for him. A second sub saw James Rintoul replaced by a Trialist and shortly after a third sub saw another Trialist come on for Iain Syme who showed up well today in his first match for the BU.
The visitors did manage to get forward again and a shot on goal was deflected away for a corner. The corner was easily dealt with and the ball cleared. Forward came the visitors again tho and another corner came in this time it was cleared for a throw in on the far side. Nothing more followed as right on time the referee ended the game at BU 3 – 0 West Calder.
