The Alex Jack Cup semi final

Haddington Athletic 1 Bo’ness United 2

Bo’ness headed to the east in this cup semi final and with a good support behind them and a new player Craig Comrie who previously had spells at Spartans, East Stirling and Falkirk but the midfielder wasn’t what the forward the fans were looking for but Stevie Kerrigan will know his own purpose bringing him in.

United hit the ground running and within minutes Nicky Prentice headed them in front from a Brian Morgan set piece. The BU’s were in control of the match and should have been further in front until John McDonald was red carded for an off the ball incident after half an hour..

The visting BU were alarmed as the Haddington team started to use the advantage of the extra man but just couldn’t breakdown the Bo’ness defence and going on good chances the home side could probably have been in front.
Bo’ness were unlucky not to double the advantage when set piece specialist found the back of the net but the flag was up as the BU and fans celebrated the goal The half time whistle sounded and the score Haddington 0 Bo’ness 1

United started the second half as they did in the first period taking control but a breakaway saw the Haddington  forwards get in front from a BU mix up and a lob from distance. With well over half an hour to go chances were coming for both sides with Bo’ness having the better of the chances but the score still remained 1-1.

Trouble was brewing as a Haddington player was red carded for a needless challenge and evened up the teams. But as we approached the final whistle and getting settled in for the extra time,

Bo’ness looked to be awakened by the sending off and at the same time Haddington heads were showing discomfort and as the sides looking at added time new recruit Kieran Sweeney(reporting error had Comrie as the scorer) managed to net a cross ball first and found the back of the net to send the BU through to the Alex Jack Cup Final winning 2-1.
