A lively opening to the game saw chances for both sides the first falling to the home side with a shot from Calum Scott saved by the visiting keeper.
The visitors then got forward and good defending from Stuart Hunter denied any chance. Both sides had a fair amount of the possession with the home side breaking forward quickly a couple of times and only the one ball in the box from the visitors.
The home side had another chance with a good long ball up field and a cross from the outside of Scott’s boot was met with a header that went high over the bar. The home side had another chance this time Marty Wright with a shot just wide of the visiting keepers left hand post. Forward came the home side again this time Ryan Miller had a good first touch but failed to turn and shoot quick enough and in came the Sauchie defence with a tackle, the ball was soon back in the box this time defended for a corner which came to nothing.
The BU probably had edged the play in the first half but fell behind seven minutes from half time as a ball into the box which could have been caught was picked by Andy Murphy only as far as the advancing Sauchie players and the ball was in the net.
Things got worse for the BU as an incident on the half way line saw Will Snowdon shown a straight red card there wasn’t much to see from my stance point of the incident other than a Sauchie player to down holding his head and Will Snowden shown a straight red card. (Reports later say it was a kick to the head)
The visitors had the ball in the net yet again, this time the home side were spared by the linesman with his flag raised on the near side. The visitors were then reduced to ten men as-well as they appealed the decision and it looks as though the choice words used to the referee were enough to see red.
Half time BU 0 – 1 Sauchie
Into the 10 v 10 second half and it was the Home side on the Attack with a good shot from 18 yards by Wright who looked to hurt himself in the process and was soon taken off replaced by Marc Kelly. The visitors got forward and looked to have players queuing up for a shot only for the ball to eventually go for a corner.
The home side then went into a spell struggling to string a pass together never mind a chance at goal but eventually one should have came with a good ball into the box from the right, no BU player went for it however and the visiting keeper made an easy catch. Another chance for the Home side this time a free kick from the right wing. There was plenty in the box for the BU but the delivery was poor and went over everyone and away for a goal kick.
Forward came the home side again this time the cross was touched by a visiting player and came back off the bar, the ball was quickly sent back in but the flag was raised for offside. Soon the BU were in a position to cross again this time the appeals went up for hand ball but given the distance between it was more ball to hand than hand to ball and the referee saw it that way too. The BU were enjoying most of the possession yet again but no more chances were created and as the game entered the final 15 minutes the visitors still held onto their 1-0 lead. It was to be short lived however as a good ball found Miller who drove the ball home from inside the box for the equaliser with twelve minutes to play. In the next two minutes the turnaround was complete this time Ross Campbell was on the end of the ball and found the back of the net for 2-1 BU with ten minutes left to play
The all to familiar scenario of conceding by the BU soon came again however as within minutes the visitors had a quick break away and scored to make it 2-2.
As the final five minutes started and the darkness fell the home crowd willed the team forward for a winner and the ball was put over the box twice in quick succession only to find no one on the end of it and easy clearances for the visiting defence. As the visitors got forward again hearts were in mouths as the ball went towards goal but Murphy was on hand with a very good save and quickly got the home side forward and out of danger.
The ball came over from the right but yet again no one was there to finish the chance. The visitors punted the ball forward and got a corner and almost a goal as a mix up left the chance for a shot but Murphy again got down quickly to save. The home side got forward as the game went into added time but the visiting keeper was quick off his line to clear and danger. A final corner for the visitors almost spelled disaster for the home side as a good ball in was met with a diving header that was on target, Murphy in the BU goal saved again. A final push forward from the BU was ended as the referee blew for full time.
