McBookie East Region Super League

A historic day for Bo’ness United as the last league game of the season got underway against the Junior Cup Semi finalists Lochee United JFC in the last ever game to be played on the best grass pitch in Junior football a sentiment echoed by many over the years. Next season the BU will have to adapt to playing all home games on a newly installed synthetic pitch courtesy of the NPA, Falkirk Council & Sport Scotland as Bo’ness united becomes an integral part of the community and community football going forward. Anyways onto the match and in glorious sunshine in front of a reasonable crowd it was the home side quickly on the front foot creating a couple of chances with shots on goal having to be blocked by the visitors.
The home side were looking the better in the first 20 mins with all Murphy having to catch an easy cross. It wasn’t long before another shot on goal came as a corner was swung in and Ryan Stevenson hit a good shot which the visiting keeper saved well. Again It wasn’t long before the visiting keeper was called into action again making a save from a good shot on target. The home side were now definitely dominating the game with the visitors rarely out their own half and as the half hour mark came and went it was still 0-0.
The home side were on the attack again when Stuart Hunter done well winning the ball on the half way line, then played it through only for a foul to be given and the referee pointed to the spot. Will Snowdon the regular penalty taker stepped up and placed the ball brilliantly in the bottom corner for 1-0 BU.
The visitors got forward but only as far as out wide before Snowdon cleared away any danger before the ball even made it to the box. A dominant first half from the home side was brought to an end by the referee at BU 1 – 0 Lochee.

Into the second half and a change from BU manager Steve Kerrigan saw Marty Wright come on for Ryan Millar. It was much the same as the first half to begin with as the Home side still dominated the game. The dominance was rewarded with another goal as Devon Jacobs played a great ball onto the head of Wright who put the ball in the net with a great header. It was then three and the game was well out of sight when Marc Kelly placed a brilliant shot past the keeper with an exquisite finish giving the home side a very deserved 3-0 lead. A second sub for the Home side saw a rousing reception for Stuart Hunter who came back from retirement early in the season to help out and has been a stand out performer as he may have played his last game at Newtown Park. Fraser Keast was his replacement as the manager shuffled the formation with an attacker replacing a defender. The next chance for the Home side came when Keast just on the park done well but the visiting keeper done well to save. A great move down the left almost saw a goal when the ball was played into the box and Ross Campbell was there but shot over the bar from inside the 6 yard box. Keast was next to have a try getting on the end of a long ball and finding himself 1 on 1 with the Lochee keeper, he let the shot go but the keeper stood tall to block well. With a few minutes left to play the final sub for the Home side came as Andy Shirra player / assistant manager who hasn’t played for a while and was welcomed back well from the support as he replaced Will Snowdon. The home side quickly yet again had the visitors penned into their own penalty area with a corner won well tight on the by line. In it came and a couple of shots towards goal had to be blocked by the visiting defence. The pressure was kept on however with another corner this time played to the edge of the box before the Lochee keeper had to make another save. Into added time at the end of the game and it didn’t get any better for the visiting side as now not only had they been dominated by the Home side but they were also now down to 10 men as a 2 yellows meant a red. The referee then ended the game at BU 3 – 0 Lochee United JFC. The BU players left the field at the last home game to a rousing applause from all the fans which they duly took and also rewarded the fans for their support with the same in return.
