Fife & Lothian’s Cup 2nd round
Newtown Park, Bo’ness
The only cup competition left this season for the BU got underway already knowing the Winner heads to Fauldhouse in the next round. It was an even start to the match with both sides playing decent passes but no real chances on goal. Just approaching the half hour the home side got in front, a free kick was swung into the box and knocked across goal, the visiting defence and keeper may feel they could have done better but Nicky Prentice didn’t mind as he put the ball into the net for 1-0 BU.
The visitors tried to get back in the game but the home side were now having a good spell and another good move saw a ball flashed across the face of goal this time no one was there for a tap in. The BU stretched the lead to 2-0 as the visiting defence and keeper had an absolute howler. Campbell played a ball forward and the keeper came out his box to chase it down, the visiting defence were also scrambling and the ball was blasted against Allan Mackenzie who was running in for the BU before trundling over the line into the open goal. The home side were now well on be front foot and in came another good ball this time Millar had a good effort stopped. The visitors did get forward but Gemmil done brilliantly down by the corner flag to ensure no ball was coming over the BU box. A corner for the BU towards the end of the half came to nothing with ball going over everyone.

Into the second half and it was a shock for the BU as just after the kick off the visitors were right back in the cup tie with a goal to reduce the lead to 2-1.
The home side got quickly on the front foot again trying to extend the lead with a good chance leading to a corner. Another chance soon followed this time looking like a goal but the visiting keeper done well to save. The nightmare scenario then came to light as the visitors got a second goal to complete their comeback to 2-2. Poor defending coupled with no challenge being made allowed them clean through running in on goal and no mistake was made as the ball was fired last Andy Murphy in the BU goal.
The reaction from BU manager Stevie Kerrigan was to make a change and Ryab Millar went off to be replaced by Ryan Stevenson. The substitution had an immediate impact as with his first touch Stevenson was set up and rifled the ball into the net for 3-2.
The second sub for the BU followed as Marc Kelly replaced Mackenzie. The home side tried to keep possession as the visitors looked to get back on level terms again but no real chances on either goal came as the match entered the final few minutes. Marty Wright done well for the Home side to hold the ball up down at the corner flag, but there was a scare for the Home side to come as the visitors got forward and through the defence to be clear in on goal, Murphy made a brilliant save to stop the ball hitting the net.
The victory and progression to the next round was then complete however as the home side came quickly forward and Wright finished off a brilliant move to make it 4-2. The visitors centered the ball and as it was kicked the referee blew for full time
