With Bo’ness United being without a match this week a bonfire night fireworks were played at home against our newly named Bo’ness United Juniors.  A big act to follow but small steps at a time.  Originally an Amateur side Linlithgow Thistle who have been a regular visit to Newtown during the Allan McGonigal era. Gareth Alexander the new junior club manager brought his side to Newtown, well, strangely enough, they are at home just like us so tonight would be a good run out for both sides on this calm crisp night with the smell from a few bonfires in the area.

From the kick-off, the BU started on the front foot and within minutes Fraser Keast scored the opening goal at the west end goal or as others call it the Kinneil end.

Minutes later it could have been two when a Ryan Stevenson free-kick went wide of the goal.  Not long afterward and  Keast on fire as he finished with a great finish and already the cracks were appearing in the junior defence.  This is friendly and the younger side will be taking on board where and how they lost and hopefully this is a learning curve they will take on board.  Meanwhile, when it went two, think about Chelsea who were already four one down against Ajax.

The game started to settle and the control and looking to break the defence down as it started to look like a chessboard with the seniors having the advantage of two goals and still trying out new moves on the artificial surface.  The Junior’s had a couple of half-chances on the BU goal which went close.
The seniors went three up minutes from the break when Mark McKenize cleverly finished off as he took his time putting the ball by the keeper.

Brian Ritchie was next to score from a headed clear it landed just perfect as he tucked the ball away

From a BU clearance, it was to become 5 as Mark McKenzie was denied the first time but when a second chance almost right away took his chance to net came along minutes later he finished tucking the ball away.

The senior side still cruising on along it became six, McKenzie again was the finisher taking his time to carefully make sure it went in.

The juniors took full advantage to get the ball in the net after the BU had made two changes and while trying to move positions about but the Juniors who caught the seniors cold with a well-executed goal.

The BU’s were anything but finished as they turned the juniors into defending again and a few good chances went astray. Until Ryan Stevenson sent a ball in from out wide and this time McKenzie made short work off it.
