Musselburgh Athletic v Bo’ness United
Olivebank,
Musselburgh

An even start to the match as both eyed each other up and the match came to life just after ten minutes when a cross from the home side was inch-perfect and the forward had an easy goal to take the lead.
Musselburgh 1 Bo’ness 0
United tried straight away as the game was opened up and a couple of half-chances came along but it was Musselburgh again hit the net with a superb strike by the player apparently making his come back from injury.
Musselburgh 2 Bo’ness 0
Was discipline then breached as Stuart Hunter was alleged to have used his head on a player half his size and the complaints to the ref were followed by a straight red.
Michael Gemmell then collided with Andy Murphy which resulted in the hard midfielder was replaced soon after by Will Snowdon.
As the match reached half time and in added time sub Snowdon gave the BU a lifeline at half time.
Musselburgh 2 Bo’ness 1

From the second half kick off the BU still searching for an equaliser and through one on one saw Donnelly taken completely out the game. A free-kick was awarded as the offender picked up a booking as it was clearly a goal-scoring opportunity. The resulting kick came to nothing and it was back trying to breach this Athletic defence down when this time Donnelly sent in a heavy challenge but in the refs eyes, it was worthy of a straight red reducing United to nine men.
It was now getting as you could say meaty as many players got involved in scuffles and as the ref tried to calm the situation he had lost resulted not one caution as he wouldn’t know where to start.
Midway through the half, Musselburgh made it three clearly against the run of play but it killed off the visitor’s attempt on the equaliser.
The BU kept going and pressing the home defence and at times you wondered who had the nine men.
With the clock running out for the BU and a first defeat of the season will see how Max Christie turns around this match as Hunter, Donnelly and the injured Gemmell might be missing next week. Who it will be against is unknown to us as the moment as our derby match Linlithgow has been postponed as the travel again to meet Jeanfield in the Scottish Cup.
