Bo’ness United 2 Linlithgow Rose 0

Bo’ness United consolidated third place in the table with a late win over their local rivals to leave them in a relegation dog fight.

The hosts made the brighter start forcing some corners without threatening the goal of Darren Hill.  United had a half chance on ten minutes with Fraser Keast almost capitalising on some slack defending but he couldn’t get his shot away and then Ruari MacLennan had a drive blocked.  United almost got the opener on the quarter hour when a Robert Sloan corner fell to Will Snowdon but his shot was brilliantly saved by Hill.  The dominant start from the hosts continued with Marty Wright hitting his shot against the side netting and then Colin Strickland pulled a shot wide.  Despite the bright start Bo’ness almost found themselves behind on the half hour, Reece Donaldson crossed for Tommy Coyne and his volley at the back post forced an excellent reaction save from Andy Murphy.  Just before the interval Jack Beaumont had a free kick saved at the interval as the teams went in level.

Linlithgow went close to breaking the deadlock immediately after half time when a Beaumont corner was headed onto the bar via the fingertips of Murphy by Colin Leiper.  The game then fell into a lull with nothing being created as both teams passed up possession with a strong swirling wind not helping matters.  Prior to the hour a Chris Donnelly cross found Scott Gibb but the stopper had his header saved and moment’s later substitute Roddy MacLennan had a good run, shooting over.  The visitors were next to try their luck with Kevin Kelbie missing his kick when in a good position and then Ross Gray had a shot go over.  On seventy five minutes United had a penalty appeal waved away by referee George Calder after Roddy MacLennan went down in the box before his brother Ruari shot wide. With the game petering towards a draw United got themselves a last minute opener.  A Sloan corner was headed down by Ross Campbell and Roddy MacLennan fired the ball home via the bar with the officials adjudging that the ball had crossed the line.  Conor Kelly then had a header go wide before Roddy MacLennan sealed the win with a marvellous curling effort into the top corner after some skillful build up play from Conor Scullion
