Bo’ness
United won a convincing
victory to lift the Dem
Master Demolition Cup
against Bathgate at
Creamery Park.
Both
teams created early
chances but it was the
BU's who took the lead
in 19 minutes. A Scott
Brown shot was handled
in the box and Scott
Mauchline shot home
from the spot. Right
away Robert Burns came
to Bo’ness’s rescue as
he tipped a Stuart
Hunter header over the
bar but Bo’ness extended
their lead in 27
minutes. Kevin Mullen
swung in a free kick and
David Morrison
got in front of his
marker to head past
Robert Balfour.
Bo’ness
were well on top at this
point but just on half
time Paul Gaughan helped
on a free kick and
Rory Grant pulled a
goal back for Bathgate,
stabbing home from close
in.
Five
minutes into the second
half, Paul Mortimer was
well wide of the
Bathgate post with a
shot from the edge of
the box and at the other
end a Rory Grant header
just cleared the Bo’ness
bar. It was the BU's who
had the best chance to
regain their two goal
advantage when they were
awarded another penalty
but this time Robert
Balfour made a great
save to stop Scott
Mauchline’s spot kick.
However the goal was
only delayed, as from
the resulting corner
Scott Brown got up
at the near post to head
home from Kevin Mullen’s
cross.
That was
62 minutes and six
minutes later the cup
looked safe when Bo’ness
scored again. Bathgate
cleared another BU
corner and when the ball
came back in, Derek
Sinclair chased it to
the line and crossed
over the head of Robert
Balfour for Scott
Brown to head into
the empty net.
Bathgate did not give up
but Bo’ness worked hard
to keep them out, while
still trying to create
chances of their own.
However there was no
further scoring and Gary
Smith stepped up to lift
the St Michael’s cup
much to the delight of
the large travelling
