Bo地ess
United proved its goals
that count as they
defeated Penicuik
Athletic in this St
Michael痴 Cup third
round tie. The home side
will be disappointed
they were unable to
convert the good chances
they created but it is
the BUs who will play
Camelon Juniors at
Carmuirs Park this
Wednesday looking for a
place in the final.
The
combination of a hard
bumpy pitch and a
blustery wind made
conditions difficult for
the players and there
was little action in the
early part of the match.
Gordon Russell brought
out a save from Penicuik
keeper Billy Bald in 22
minutes and Jon Mitchell
saw his shot blocked
with Gary Brown
following up to shoot
over the bar.
A Dean
Jones snap shot nearly
caught out BU keeper
Robert Burns and from
the corner Penicuik
captain Kevin Milne
headed just wide of the
Bo地ess post. Gary Brown
made a great tackle as
Paul Harvey went through
on the Bo地ess goal but
just before half time
the BUs got their noses
in front. Jon Tully
lofted a free kick
towards the back post
and the ball deceived
everyone except Scott
Mauchline who headed
back across the goal
finding the bottom
corner of the net.
Penicuik should have hit
back straight away but
John Harvey put the ball
wide from close in.
The
second half was again
scrappy though Penicuik
upped their efforts as
they tried to get back
into the tie. Ryan Gay
was looking for a
penalty as he went down
in the Bo地ess box but
his appeals were waved
aside. The BU defence
had their work cut out
but they held out and in
66 minutes Penicuik
conceded again when
Jon Tully rose to
nod home from a Jon
Mitchell short corner to
Kevin Mullen.
As with
the first goal Penicuik
could have scored right
after the kick off but
this time ex BU Keith
Salton headed over the
Bo地ess bar. Any doubt
about who was going to
win the day was blown
away with twenty minutes
remaining as another
Mitchell Mullen combined
corner saw Kevin
Proctor volley into
the net.
The score line may have
flattered Bo地ess but
all credit to the
players who just keep
going with goals coming
from various areas of
the park
