Bo地ess
United progressed to the
next round of the
Scottish Junior Cup
thanks to a victory at
Tinto Park against
Benburb. Two goals from
Scott Brown settled the
tie with one at the
beginning of the match
and the second coming
just before the end.
As hinted
in the local press there
was a new face in the
form of Jon Mitchell
just signed from
Linlithgow Rose, and he
went straight into the
side lining up on the
right side of the park.
Benburb
created the first chance
with Tony O誰eill
shooting wide but in 6
minutes it was Bo地ess
who went ahead. Steven
McGlinshey put in a shot
that Benburb keeper Joe
Ghattas couldn稚 hold
and Scott Brown
was on hand to shoot
home from close in.
Bo地ess
had the better of the
first half but could not
add to their lead though
there was the occasional
flap at the back when
Benburb got forward.
Into the
second half and Benburb
stepped their game up
enjoying a lot of
possession. As the game
moved into its final
quarter Bo地ess were
struggling to keep the
ball and it just kept
coming back into their
box. Benburb won a
series of corners and
again Tony O誰eill had a
good chance but his
volley inside the box
went wide of Jon
Connelly痴 goal.
Benburb
could not get that all
important goal and were
left to regret this as
Bo地ess scored a second
goal in 86 minutes.
Stewart Kenny got to the
line and cut the ball
back for Scott Brown
to crash his shot off
the bar but he was
alert, blasting the
rebound past Joe Ghattas.
The
shine was taken off a
bit as Kevin Donnelly
received his second
yellow card with a few
minutes remaining but in
the end Eric Sinclair
had his first
competitive win and
Bo地ess were in round
three of the national
tournament.
