After
four games Bo’ness
United still remain
pointless this time
going down to Bathgate
Thistle at Newtown Park.
A goal in
each half ensured that
Gary Smith and Gordon
Russell were not to get
the BU League campaign
off the ground but their
cause was not helped
when Lee Docherty was
shown the red card with
twenty minutes
remaining.
The first
half was far from
exciting with little in
the way of good football
or goalmouth action but
it was Bathgate who got
the all important first
goal in 20 minutes after
Alan Neill got
onto the end of an Iain
Nicolson cross to head
past Paul Ferguson.
The
second half was a bit
better as Bo’ness tried
to claw themselves back
into the game but an
already tough task was
made even tougher in 71
minutes when Lee
Docherty was sent off by
the referee.
Bo’ness
enjoyed a good spell and
had a couple of close
efforts with Gordon
Russell’s shot just
beating the far post and
Stewart Kenny’s header
going wide.
Unfortunately for
Bo’ness they could not
score and Bathgate won
the game with four
minutes remaining as
Stewart Maxwell’s near
post corner was headed
in by Gary Robertson.
Bo’ness now face the
tough prospect of
looking for their first
points of the season
against table topping
Linlithgow Rose at
Newtown Park next
