Bo’ness
United progressed to the
semi final of the
Dechmont Forklift Cup
after defeating Armadale
Thistle at Newtown Park.
The new
Premier League Champions
went ahead in 3 minutes
when a short corner on
the right was crossed
over and David
Morrison headed low
just inside the far
post. Armadale created
some chances but in 28
minutes they went
further behind after
David Thornton
curled a low shot past
Dale keeper Michael
Dukes.
Armadale
tried to get back and
just before the break a
Graeme Gallagher free
kick was cleared by the
BU defence and from the
resulting corner Nicky
Brookfield headed
straight into the arms
of Robert Burns.
The
second half started as
the first had ended with
the visitors on the
attack but Bo’ness soon
regained control and
went even further ahead
in 63 minutes. David
Thornton darted through
on goal but his
disappointment at seeing
his effort blocked
turned to joy when
David Morrison
followed up to volley
into the net.
The game looked to be
beyond Armadale but they
scored right away when a
Nicky Brookfield
shot was deflected past
Robert Burns and created
other chances that might
have made it a nervous
ending for Bo’ness.
However the game
finished with Bo’ness on
the attack and just
before the whistle
Armadale were reduced to
ten men when Graham
Gallagher received a
late booking to add to
his earlier yellow card.
