Bo’ness
United dropped precious
points in the race for
the Premier League title
as they squandered a two
goal half time lead to
draw away at Kinnoull.
With new
signing Eamon Fullerton
from Kelty Hearts in
their ranks the BUs
started brightly though
it was not until 29
minutes when they got
themselves in front.
From a throw in on the
left Kevin Donnelly fed
the ball to Paul
Tweedie who turned
on the corner of the
penalty box to drive a
great low shot into the
opposite corner of the
net.
A
reaction save by Robert
Burns defied Kinnoull
front man Gary Sweeney
and just before half
time Bo’ness doubled
their lead when Scott
Mauchline put Paul
Tweedie through to
slot the ball past the
exposed Duncan Bruce.
Kinnoull
looked better in the
second half and in 53
minutes they won a
penalty from a cross
into the box where the
referee decided Kevin
Mullen had tugged Alex
Ross’s shirt. Steve
McManus made no
mistake from the spot
and the home side
were back in the game.
Kinnoull were
transformed winning most
of the ball as they
pressed forward looking
for the equalising goal.
Bo’ness
were hanging on though
they might have finished
the game when Scott
Brown hit an angled shot
but the ball pulled just
wide of the Kinnoull
post. As it was with six
minutes left Kinnoull
did get the goal they
wanted after Jon Tully
and Robert Burns got
into a muddle in front
of goal and the ball
broke for Robbie
Holden who rolled
the ball into the empty
net.
Kinnoull
were clearly delighted
but it was the BUs who
came closest to winning
it near the end when
Ryan McCafferty got onto
a Kevin Mullen corner
but his header was
deflected wide of the
goal.
Bo’ness will be
disappointed at losing
the two points and will
be particularly
concerned at
surrendering a two goal
lead in such a vital
game. |
