Bo地ess
United wound up their
East Region South League
Cup campaign with a
defeat against South
Division side Sauchie
Juniors.
Camelon
were already section
winners and though it
was a meaningless match
Bo地ess were looking for
a boost ahead of their
Premier Division
campaign. However it was
not to be and instead
there will be concern
about the lack of
consistency which will
need to be sorted out if
the BU's are serious
about achieving success
in the season ahead.
Sauchie
went ahead in 17 minutes
when the referee decided
Gary Brown痴 foul on
Barry Thompson was
inside the box and
awarded a penalty. It
was ex BU coach
Willie Irvine who
took the kick beating
Robert Burns from the
spot and Bo地ess were on
the back foot.
Stephen
Payne almost equalised
for Bo地ess right away
but Sauchie keeper David
Mathie made a great save
tipping the curling free
kick shot over the bar.
Bo地ess were living
dangerously at the back
with a couple of scares
though in 22 minutes the
BU's came close with a
low shot from Scott
Mauchline that just
squeaked past the far
post.
However
ten minutes before half
time things got worse
for Bo地ess when they
went further behind. A
free kick from a deep
position was headed on
and the unmarked Mark
Donnelly volleyed
past an exposed Robert
Burns.
The
second half proved
frustrating for Bo地ess
who had the lion痴 share
of the ball but move
after move broke down
and a stubborn Sauchie
defence thwarted their
every effort.
Nevertheless Sauchie had
a couple of
opportunities to finish
things off but the in 89
minutes it was Bo地ess
who finally got a goal
back. A Stephen Payne
corner from the right
reached the far post
where Kevin Donnelly
rose to head home
from close in to give
the visitors a glimmer
of hope.
The game
moved into time added on
and Sauchie looked
worried they might miss
out on victory as
Bo地ess tried to pull
off the great escape but
there was to be no
further breakthrough and
the home side held on.
Attention will now focus
on next week痴 visit to
Rosyth in the first
Premier Division game as
Bo地ess commence their
mission for a quick
return to Super League
football
