Bo’ness United earned a second chance after a tough Scottish Cup match on a muddy Dunterlie Park. However over the piece, Arthurlie enjoyed most of the possession and will perhaps be disappointed not to have won the match outright.
Steven Gallagher headed over early for Arthurlie and James Marks saw his shot deflected for a corner. Mark Blakey lobbed the ball over the Bo’ness defence but as Paul Stewart slid in, BU keeper Scott Christie got down to smother the ball.
In 27 minutes Will Snowdon released Nicky Walker up the right, but his cross was behind John Stewart and the ball was cleared. However four minutes later Bo’ness went ahead. A foul on Nicky Walker gave the BUs a free kick twenty two yards from goal. Ian Nimmo stepped up to curl the ball round the Arthurlie wall beating keeper Keith Ross low to his right.
Arthurlie’s response was a John McLay shot that went straight to Scott Christie but five minutes before the break the home side went close. From an Alan Muir free kick cross James Marks’ header hit the BU post. The ball was only cleared as far as Paul Stewart who swiped a shot wide of the post.
Steven Gallagher headed over the Bo’ness bar early in the second half but Bo’ness created a few good chances to extend their lead. Lee Duffy had a shot blocked at the near post and soon after the same player put John Stewart in on goal with a great pass. Stewart’s shot was deflected for a corner and from Duffy’s the Arthurlie keeper parried but Steven Reilly blasted over at the far post.
After that Arthurlie were on top and got a deserved equaliser in 71 minutes. Paul Stewart burst forward, stabbing a shot onto the Bo’ness post and James Marks stooped to head the rebound into the net.
Arthurlie had their tails up and looked the likelier team but they were unable to get another goal. Bo’ness were restricted to the occasional break forward but held on for the replay at Newtown Park.
