Bo’ness stole a march on their rivals, winning all three points in the only Super League match of the day. The BUs made things hard for themselves against ten man Kelty Hearts, failing to build on an early lead and it was the Central Park team who looked the better side towards the end of a tough match.
After the sides settled into the game, Bo’ness looked the better side and went ahead after 15 minutes. A mix up between two Kelty players saw Ian Nimmo’s pass find Nicky Walker who charged towards the Kelty goal. Walker might have had a go himself but instead his low ball across the face of the goal picked out Chris Donnelly, whose side foot shot beat Kelty keeper Allan Fleming from close in.
The goal gave Bo’ness the confidence to knock the ball about and after half an hour there was further misery for Kelty who were reduced to ten men. Kelty captain Tom Courts flew into a challenge on Lee Duffy and the referee immediately showed the red card for the dangerous tackle.
Ironically it was Kelty who created the next best chance; a Conrad Courts snap shot that was well saved by BU keeper Scott Christie.
Bo’ness started the second half well but couldn’t beat Fleming who made two great saves to keep his side in the game. The first came from a close range Steven Reilly header and the Kelty keeper got down to save from a low Nicky Walker shot.
Despite not scoring Bo’ness looked comfortable and continued to pass the ball while dealing with anything Kelty had to offer. However Kelty kept working and gradually they took the game to Bo’ness who were starting to look a bit ragged. Conrad Courts fired in a couple of dangerous crosses but Kelty were unable to take advantage.
