Bo’ness United are through to the next round of the Scottish Junior Cup but only after a very difficult match at Sauchie Juniors.
A strong wind blew through a very muddy Beechwood Park and the BUs had to recover from losing a two goal lead to eventually get an injury time winner.
Bo’ness started with the wind at their backs in an even first half where there were chances at both ends. However just before the half time whistle, Bo’ness took the lead as John Stewart headed on a Lee Duffy corner for Chris Donnelly to smash home from close in via the underside of the crossbar.
After the break, it was Bo’ness’s turn to face into the wind and Sauchie went close when Burns shot just over the bar. However in 68 minutes Bo’ness extended their lead after Nicky Walker was tackled by Steven Dolan in the Sauchie box and the referee pointed to the spot. The award looked soft but Ian Nimmo didn’t care as he fired the penalty kick past Bryn Halliwell.
The goal seemed to take the wind out of the Sauchie sails for a bit but they struck back in 74 minutes when Allister Burns connected with a Garry Carroll cross to head past Scott Christie. Sauchie were back into it and three minutes later were level. From a corner, Scott Christie made a fantastic stop to block an Allister Burns shot but Garry Carroll followed up to put away the rebound.
Bo’ness were on the backfoot but they weathered the storm and two minutes into time added on got the winner. From a Lee Duffy corner, Scott Gibb headed towards the goal and although the ball was blocked, Kevin Watt was on the spot to fire home from a few yards out.
Bo’ness were delighted with the win and in a game that could have gone either way, the players must be commended for keeping to the task on a difficult day for football
