Bo’ness United eased into round four of the Scottish Junior Cup after this victory against Saltcoats Victoria.
Shooting against the wind, Bo’ness contained Saltcoats while still getting forward themselves. Saltcoats had a good chance to go ahead after 16 minutes but Lee Munro’s header from Tom McClelland’s cross went straight to BU keeper Scott Christie.
Just before the break Bo’ness were inches from scoring when Stephen Tarditi received a through pass from Lee Duffy but his angled shot was just wide of the far post. Ex BU David Wilson and Ross Munro got in late efforts for Saltcoats but the Ayrshire side had not been able to capitalise on the strong wind at their backs.
As expected, Bo’ness pushed forward in the second half but it took until 62 minutes before they made the breakthrough. Ian Nimmo swung in a great corner from the left and although Saltcoats keeper Chris Lamb got to the ball, he could only fumble it over his own goal line. The game looked to be over as Saltcoats had threatened little although Bo’ness kept looking to get a second goal cushion.
As proceedings were drawing to a close, Saltcoats were reduced to ten men after Lee Munro was red carded for saying something to the referee. Two minutes into time added on, Bo’ness finally made sure of the win after a good run by Nicky Walker who gave the ball to Kevin Watt just inside the box, and the BU substitute cut inside before firing a great low shot low into the back of the net.
