Bo’ness United dug in to get a great Scottish Cup victory against a plucky Whitehill Welfare. Welfare enjoyed a lot of possession but it was Bo’ness who got the goals thanks to a Stephen Tarditi brace, both provided by the efforts of Nicky Walker.

There were only 7 minutes on the clock when the BUs got ahead, Chris Donnelly connecting with a Nicky Walker cross, only to see Whitehill Welfare centre half Michael Bruce block the effort. However the ball went up in the air and as it came down Stephen Tarditi connected, his drop volley from close in zipping into the net.

Ten minutes later, Whitehill carved out a good move and from a Wayne Sproule cross, BU keeper Scott Christie got down to make a good save from Wayne McIntosh’s header.

Whitehill pushed on looking to get back but they were faced with a resolute Bo’ness defence who were determined to keep their goal intact. In saying that, just after the break Welfare had a great opportunity to score when Wayne McIntosh was face to face with the goal but, although his lob beat Scott Christie, the presence of the Bo’ness keeper saw the ball go over the bar.

The visitors continued to search for a goal but it was Bo’ness who extended their lead in 72 minutes. An Ian Nimmo pass sent Nicky Walker sprinting down the right, and his cut back picked out Stephen Tarditi who flashed a great shot past Welfare keeper Darren Walker.

Only four minutes later Whitehill got a goal back when Andrew Kidd scored from the spot after Stephen Tarditi was adjudged to have pushed namesake William in the box.

Whitehill worked to get back but Bo’ness worked even harder to keep them at bay and the BUs look forward to the draw for the third round on Wednesday
