Bo’ness United progressed to the next round of the Scottish Cup after a straight forward win at Fort William.
From the kick off the BUs were better and went ahead after 16 minutes. Nicky Walker won a corner on the left and from Ian Nimmo’s cross Scott Gibb dived to head in at the front post. Five minutes later Bo’ness won a corner on the right, and again Nimmo put the ball over, and again a near post header from Gibb found the back of the net.
In 31 minutes the tie was effectively won when Bo’ness scored goal number three. Chris Donnelly got to the line before putting a low cross over and, although a Fort William defender stopped it, Nicky Walker nipped in to stab over the line. Fort William got a couple of shots in the first half but they did little to suggest they would get back into the match.
The second half proved to be a scrappy affair with Bo’ness making less of an impact. Fort William enjoyed more of the play and BU keeper Scott Christie saw some action having to make a couple of decent saves. However it was the visitors who got on the score sheet again. In 67 minutes a Fort William goal kick didn’t get far and Stephen Tarditi danced forward beating a couple of player before slotting the ball in from a tight angle.
As the game neared the end, Fort William pushed forward looking for a consolation but they couldn’t get the final touch. Bo’ness can now look forward to a second round home match against Whitehill Welfare. This
