Bo'ness United continued their preparations for the new season putting on a good display to beat East of Scotland senior side Lothian Thistle. There were ten signed players in the starting line up although there was a shuffling of the formation as new coach Paul Ronald continues to get to know his players.
Bo'ness started well and only a good block by Lothian centre half Conan McDairmid stopped Lee Duffy finding the target with a shot from the edge of the box. However in 8 minuted Bo'ness went ahead after Stuart Hunter put a good ball into the box and it broke nicely for John Stewart to fire in from a couple of yards out. Joe Murray made a good pass into the path of Kenny Fisher in the Bo'ness box but pressure from Will Snowdon forced the Lothian striker to shoot wide. Scott Christie the BU keeper then made a great save to stop a close range effort by Kenny Fisher.
In 28 minutes Bo'ness extended their lead when Nicky Walker measured his cross and John Stewart swept the ball in at the near post. Eight minutes later John Stewart got his hat trick after Lee Duffy found Nicky Walker with a pass into the box and his volleyed pass was converted from close in.
Three minutes from the break Lee Duffy made space for himself at the edge of the box but Lothian keeper Kevin Swain made a good save from the incoming shot.
From the kick off at the start of the second half Bo'ness nearly scored when John Stewart run onto a long ball out of the defence, but his shot from just inside the box went just over. In saying that he did get goal number four in 51 minutes when Paul McLaren whipped a ball in from the left and the BU striker reacted to force in from the line.
Joe Murray got in an angled shot on the Bo'ness goal but Scott Christie tipped over his bar. The Lothian centre was close on that occasion but he did get on the score sheet in 65 minuted when he headed a Craig Stevenson corner in at the near post. Ten minutes later Lothian got a second goal, this time Omar Ali got onto a long ball before weaving into the Bo'ness box to put the shot away from close in.
Seventeen Bo'ness players played a part in this game and, a combination of some good football with more than a few notable individual displays, made this a good watch for the BU fans. This report has been submitted to the website of Bo'ness United Football Club and is the property of the above website.
